ECISD board proposes 14 cent tax hike and hearing date set

ECISD board of trustees voted to publish intent to raise taxes by 14 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. A public hearing is set for 7 p.m. September 1, with a regular meeting to adopt the rate on September 15. A 14 cent increase would raise a $40,000 home bill by about $23.80 yearly, while a 12 cent option could leave a $700,000 shortfall. The district may use reserves to balance.
