Sooners Count On Veterans For 1978 Season Start
Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer expects a quick experienced team with 43 returning lettermen led by quarterback Thomas Lott and running backs David Overstreet and Billy Sims. Injuries loom as center Paul Tabor is out six to seven weeks, while defensive depth hinges on health for All-Americans Kinlaw Hunt Cumby and Hebert. Stanford looms as a challenging Sept. 9 opener after a 10-1 finish last season amid key personnel changes.
