Deadly bombings kill 46 civilians in Afghanistan by two separate incidents
The deadliest day for Afghan civilians this year saw 46 killed, most of them civilians, as militants attacked Nimroz and Kunduz provinces. In Nimroz, 25 civilians and 11 police died when attackers with explosive vests struck in Zaranj, near Iran. Police captured several attackers and said the assailants hailed from Zahedan. In Kunduz, a separate market attack left numerous victims among shoppers, including those buying sweets for a Muslim holiday, with charred remains found near a hospital area. Authorities noted the violence as Taliban insurgents push to showcase influence and weaken Afghan security forces ahead of foreign troop withdrawal.
