Red wolves at Oglebay Park zoo show rare pups born in May
The Good Children's Zoo at Oglebay Park housed five red wolf pups from No 278 and No 282 at Saas born in early May. One female died from infection and another was stillborn, while the surviving pups weigh 15 to 20 pounds and act much like their parents. Worldwide red wolves rose to 131 with 74 females and 57 males as of July 31, a year marked by good breeding but high mortality. Adult wolves have lived at the zoo since December 1988, yet breeding did not occur in 1989.
