Rep Kelly Godwin Odessa objected saying he did not want lobbying in the name of the Lord. Alley urged Texans to stand in a tradition of doing what is right and to tax their hearts and minds.
At Odessa City Hall about 30 residents debated four proposed methods to clean chromium tainted groundwater near two Superfund sites Chromium I and II. Some objections claimed the plan shifts costs to taxpayers and worsens local taxes while others argued the proposal is a simple EPA fix. Officials from EPA Texas Water Commission and public health discussed the chromium contaminated wells first reported in 1977 and 1978 in a Trinity aquifer area west of Andrews Highway.
EPA outlines four options funded by Superfund to clean two chromium contaminated wells north of Odessa. The plan includes new groundwater, extending Odessa water, surface water purchase, and treatment, with monthly bills rising for residents. Key figures show costs from about 2.2 to 4.6 million dollars per option and bills ranging from roughly 37.88 to 473.39 dollars per month.
The Ector County Odessa Animal Shelter auctioned 15 of 16 pigs after an 18 year old surrendered the swine. Animal Shelter Supervisor Freddy Belis said the event drew about 25 bidders. County Christian Daycare bought six piglets for 26 dollars and two other buyers took portions of the litter. Prices ranged from 10 to 60 dollars as bidders planned to fatten swine for a feast.
