First MLK I Have a Dream recording found in North Carolina
English professor Jason Miller uncovered a reel to reel tape of Martin Luther King Jr delivering a 1962 Rocky Mount address at Booker T. Washington High School to about 2,000 people. The discovery links the Rocky Mount speech to the later Washington event and shows King weaving sermon and mass meeting elements with the dream refrain Let Freedom Ring. The find, tied to Kings Origins of the Dream project, was highlighted after a transcript appeared in state archives.
