County approves early voting schedule in Ector County
Ector County commissioners set an early voting timetable for the November general election with three contested races on the ballot and several county offices unopposed. Last day to register is Oct 6. Early voting runs Oct 20 to Oct 31 at multiple sites including the Courthouse Annex Lowe's Supermarket Presidential Museum Odessa College Sports Center and other health and university facilities.

Odessa Storm Causes Water Rescues and Power Fluctuations
A ferocious rain event drenched Odessa prompting water rescues and false alarms. Firefighters report several water rescues after vehicles drove into deep water while NWS radar showed totals near half an inch in western Odessa and about a tenth outside the city. Wind gusts reached 69 mph at Schlemeyer Field though Midland airport logged around 12 mph. The storm moved straight over Odessa, triggering a severe thunderstorm warning and brief sensor outages during a system reboot.

Fire at First Baptist Church Causes Minimal Damage
A ceiling fire in a hallway near the front entrance of First Baptist Church at 709 N. Lee Ave. was quickly extinguished after alarms activated at 6:19 a.m. Business Administrator Richard Regester estimated about $1,000 in damage and noted rapid police response and efforts to remove smoke.

Body found in downtown OA parking lot
A homeless man was found dead Sunday in a cargo van in the Odessa American’s downtown parking lot near Fourth Street and Jackson Avenue. Police do not suspect foul play. The man had not been identified by Monday afternoon and an autopsy was ordered by the Ector County Medical Examiner.

Runway deal stalls as board taps contractor aid

Man wounded in shooting released from hospital
A Houston man injured by gunfire Saturday night at Parkway Inn on East Highway 80 has been released from Medical Center Hospital after treatment. Police log indicates several shots were fired around 11:15 p.m. Two cars were damaged and one man was shot in the back. Authorities describe the shooter as a black male seen fleeing from the alley.
