Air Traffic Controllers Face Stress Linked Health Risk
A Boston University study for the FAA surveyed 416 male air traffic controllers aged 25 to 49 in Boston and New York. It found higher rates of hypertension among controllers, with 135 preexisting and 36 developing later, while alcoholism remained near average. The report links job dissatisfaction and alienation to psychological issues, cites less positive feedback and management in the FAA environment, and notes a potential burnout self-perception among long-time workers.
