Health care fight shapes Texas teacher retirement relief
During a July to August special session Texas House leaders push to raid $212.7 million from the Rainy Day Fund for temporary retiree health relief while the Senate prefers an accounting maneuver to cover gaps in TRS-CARE. Retirees like Hatcher face rising deductibles and monthly drug costs, threatening votes in March primaries as lawmakers seek a long term financing plan to avert a multi year funding shortfall.
