Reagan selects Feldstein as chief economic adviser
President Reagan named Martin Feldstein 42, Harvard professor, to head the Council of Economic Advisers, replacing Murray Weidenbaum. Feldstein supports tax cuts and slowing growth of social programs, but suggests delaying the July 1 tax cut to help trim the deficit. He leads the National Bureau of Economic Research and has warned government policy worsened inflation and productivity.
