Court rules Texas voter ID violates Voting Rights Act
A federal appeals court in New Orleans ruled that Texas voter ID law has a discriminatory effect on minorities. The panel sent the case back to the lower court to address fixes while the law remains in effect for now. The decision, on the eve of VRA's 50th anniversary, upheld that Section 2 governs the case with DOJ arguing potential disenfranchisement of hundreds of thousands of voters.
