Relief well drilling begins after Gulf blowout in Louisiana
In Houma Louisiana drilling has started on a relief well to seal a gas well that blew out in the Gulf of Mexico last month. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says the drilling began Sunday and should take about 35 days, with drilling mud and cement pumped in once the relief well intercepts. A sheen is no longer visible near the site about 55 miles south of the coast. No injuries were reported when the Walter Oil and Gas Corp well blew out on July 23, and all 44 aboard the Hercules Offshore rig were evacuated before a fire.
