Union charges vineyard misled pickers on wages
Migrant workers at Ste Genevieve Vineyards 85 miles south of Odessa were promised hourly wages but were offered a piece rate starting at 75 cents per basket and later cut to 60 cents. Union attorney Viviana Patino alleges violations of the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Workers Protection Act and says a July 20 boycott occurred. Vineyard officials deny the claims as publicity seeking and note housing and transport rules may apply. Page 38.
