County budget battle deepens as commissioners seek cuts
County officials face a tight budget with a plan to shave more than 1.2 million from FY2015 and reduce new hires. District Attorney Bland demands three prosecutors and staff to address rising crime, jail overflow, and a fifth district court, while Commissioner Simmons proposes a compromise with two prosecutors and one investigator. Sheriff Donaldson seeks funding for vehicle replacements, and Clerk Haney requests a 5 percent pay raise, all while exploring digitizing county records and delaying high cost projects. Public hearings on the property tax rate are set for August 20 and 24.
