The Doubleheader Decline in Baseball History
A relationship of nostalgia and data shows doubleheaders fading from major league calendars. Quotes from Don Unferth and Al Campanis frame the shift, with attendance and leisure patterns cited as primary causes. Historical counts reveal a steady drop from the 1960s to 1970s, while NL and AL schedules diverge on July 4 doubleheaders.
