Odessa considers 40 percent water rate hike amid drought revenue loss
Odessa officials project a 40 percent rise in water rates to offset a revenue shortfall after a drought reduced sales. YTD water revenue through June fell to 14.74 million from 16.02 million prior year, even after a 20 percent rate increase. Final rates hinge on the 2012 2013 budget authorizations. The city advances water reclamation plans and explores a Ward County desalination plant and possible brackish water sales from Fort Stockton.
