Odessa residents halt inmate escape at hospital
Odessa residents helped stop Michael Harold Barnes after he was treated at Medical Center Hospital. Barnes, 33, was being held on bonds totaling 25,000 on possession charges and escape with bodily injury. Paramedics Cipriano Sawyer and Jeff Carlton joined jail staff in stopping Barnes as he tried to flee, blocking traffic and detaining him until police arrived. Sheriff Mark Donaldson praised citizen action while cautioning against taking matters into hands.
