Research Could Cut Cost of Energy From Fuel Cells
US and Australian researchers report methods to produce oxygen from water using common materials. MIT chemist Nocera uses cobalt and phosphates on a conductive glass to generate oxygen. a second approach by Winther Jensen’s team uses a conductive polymer on Goretex membrane for high surface area oxygen evolution. platinum still needed for hydrogen production, but may be overcome.
