Jerusalem Residency Revoked Deepens Israel Palestinian Tensions

Zeina Ashrawi, daughter of Palestinian activist Hanan, loses Jerusalem residency after obtaining a U.S. green card, granting a 30 day tourist visa for a visit with her 10 month old son Majd. Critics say moves target Arab residents to solidify a Jewish majority amid wider disputes over east Jerusalem. Demographer Sergio DellaPergola notes a declining Jewish share as Arabs’ birth rate persists, with future parity anticipated among school age children. A peace talks division of the city remains on the table, but a comprehensive deal this year appears unlikely.
