Block to Visit Soviet Union and Hungary for Agricultural Talks
Agriculture Secretary John R. Block will depart August 25 for Moscow to discuss overall agricultural relations and trade with Valentin K. Mesyats, later visiting Hungary before Sept. 3. The trip, his second to the USSR, follows an invitation from Mesyats. An American delegation of farm and commodity representatives will join. Separately, Rep. Kika de la Garza and five other House Agriculture Committee members will begin a two-week trip to the Soviet Union for talks with Soviet leaders.

Davis wins right to new trial in rape case
William Davis, 39, of Monongahela, is granted a new trial after Ronnda Baker recanted her earlier claim of rape. Baker later said her initial testimony was false and faces perjury charges. The appeals court ruled in Davis's favor despite prosecutors opposing a fresh trial.

Amish group wins for not displaying slow sign on buggies
In Glasgow Kentucky a judge ruled the First Amendment protects Amish drivers from a state law requiring bright orange slow moving vehicle signs. Herman Zook 27 argued the Swartzentruders religion forbids such displays and the court dismissed his ticket. Local leaders said the decision is favorable though they may appeal.
