The sixth annual Health Fair Fundraiser for the Southside Senior Center is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on August 24 at the Northside Senior Center located at 1225 N. Adams Ave. The event is open to the public. For more information call 337-5281.
Statewide Tip A Cop Night at 53 Texas Roadhouse locations raised 181,616 for Special Olympics Texas surpassing previous single-night totals. LETR and nearly 100 law enforcement agencies organized the event with continued funds still being counted. Doug Ray of SOTX credited customers and agency partners for the strong turnout.

Odessa police report 34 year old Matthew Taylor confessed to striking his father Douglas Taylor with a frying pan and stabbing him to death after an argument. The body was found at 2525 E Second St. autopsy pending. Matthew Taylor, 5075 E 52nd St, held without bond with prior weapon burglary and auto theft arrests.
In downtown Odessa a small crowd including patients from the Permian Basin Rehab Center breaks ground for an Outdoor Therapy Center. The center will aid pediatric and adult patients with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and injuries, offering therapy across feeding, walking, talking and balance skills.
A dozen Texas inmates remain under life without parole for crimes committed before age 18. Texas allows individual resentencing petitions, with three inmates already seeking new hearings. Advocates push a Second Look bill to grant parole after 20 years and consider youth growth, but it stalled in committee.
