Washington Monument Reopens as Renovation Continues
The Washington Monument opens to visitors after removal of scaffolding revealing a clean surface, though the three year 10 million dollar renovation remains incomplete. Early arrivals include the Dallman family of Missouri, with tickets issued under a new timed system. Forecasted storms prompted safety cautions as a line of about 300 formed near the ticket booth. An Ancient Egyptian Order group attended, noting the obelisk’s African symbolism. The site will close again this December to finish refurbishing.
