Eagleton Defends Health History At Senate Meeting
Eight men attended the Marble Room session as Eagleton, flanked by Sen. Nelson, opened with a 15 minute defense of his three hospital stints for nervous exhaustion and fatigue. He warned the issue would fade with time, while McGovern argued the real factor was the national campaign and the president. Eagleton said he would crisscross the country to move past the medical history, and McGovern cited the broader campaign impact.

Democrats Face New National Committee Rules Shift
The rules for filling a vacancy at the Democratic convention would let the national committee replace Eagleton by a proxy system. Each state would cast its delegation’s votes via its qualified members, potentially expanding the voting body to 303 with governors, lawmakers, party leaders, and at large members. Debate centers on whether only state-representing members or the full panel should vote on a vice presidential pick.
