Program helps get families off the welfare wagon
Carol Peacock, a former pool player, runs social programs for girls in Massachusetts and wrote Hand-Me-Down Dreams about four mothers and daughters as she worked from 1972 to 1976 to move families away from welfare. The book draws on case histories, tape recordings, and four real girls, two of whom gain independence and jobs.
