U S troops advance south of Baghdad meet few defenders
U S forces swept a 31 mile corridor between the Tigris and Euphrates racing to curb Republican Guard movements toward Baghdad. In Suwayrah they seized Medina Division HQ, found few troops, and encountered abandoned bases and destroyed military hardware. Regulars reported light resistance as burning ammo trucks and munitions rained sparks.
