The Kickapoo sought a common land trust to buy a ranch in Coahuila with 12 000 Hereford cattle and sell Oklahoma land to fund it. Congress stalled patents, then allowed sale of lands at any price, drawing adventurers and bankers into an international land grab. Corrupt officials and forged deeds followed, with Kickapoo sources facing coercion and arrest as they resisted. Died From Wood Alcohol in Boarding House

Frederick E. Burke 60, known as Switzer, died Monday afternoon in a boarding house after drinking wood alcohol. He had been drinking heavily for several days seeking whiskey, and a bottle of wood alcohol was consumed by mistake for a bath aid. Dr. Sincock declared him beyond medical help. Burke formerly worked for Stearns Lumber Co. and sent money from Switzerland. The Swiss Council in Chicago was informed of the death.

Turkey Shoot Draws Large Crowd at Local Event

A Wednesday afternoon turkey shoot drew a large crowd at Blackbird Pleev. Organized by the Fair Association, the event featured four competitions and raised support for a local gun club.
