J C Bradley a former village resident now a government farmer at Bayfield Wisconsin visited the area last Sunday to see friends and relatives. Peaj F Kojane of this village has enlisted in Uncle Sam’s navy and is at Mare Island California Marine Barracks to remain fourteen months before navy duty. President Gardner of Northwestern Dies at Osterville
William A. Gardner president of the Chicago & Northwestern and Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha died this week at his Osterville summer home. He left Chicago ten days ago for a rest, his wife beside him. Gardner, 57, began as a telegraph operator in 1878 and rose through ranks to become president in 1910, succeeding Martin Hughitt. Funeral plans are incomplete.

Sudden death of Ontonagon man due to heart failure
Calvin Huntley a 70 year old Ontonagon Michigan resident and J S Stearns Lumber Co. teamster dropped dead Sunday evening at a company boarding house after returning from supper. He had a history of heart failure and leaves a wife and two children. His remains were shipped to Ontonagon via Ashland. He was a member of the M W A Lodge and carried $2000 life insurance.

Parents Day at School Brings Attendance and Talks
Last Friday public school parents joined a morning session with student work displays and an afternoon program at the M W A Hall. About fifteen parents attended the noon events. Miss Hart spoke on parent teacher cooperation and Supt Shannon of Ashland discussed Parent Teacher associations. Lunch followed, provided by ninth and tenth graders, and a social hour concluded the day.
