Drought in the southwest drives cattle into Wisconsin pastures as Kansas herds arrive to winter on abundant fodder. Indians on Bad River and Kickapoo valley farmers expand beef fattening, with steers gaining 400 pounds from fall grazing. A Wisconsin dairy farmer is urged to diversify into beef cattle for Chicago markets.

Delegates praised by Congressman Lenroot and Assistant Commissioner Merritt for pushing the measure and the village rider, with Interior support, as hope rises that the bill will become law this session. Mack and other delegates reported strong hearings and broad backing from Indian offices.
Ashland county Training School Board selected teachers for the coming year and approved a summer session at Mellen from July six to August six teen. C E Hulton named principal Adele A Lange named assistant. The County Board organized at Ashland court house May 6 with E J Lockard drawing the five year term and plans to meet at Glidden next.
The J. S. Stearns Lumber Company big mill at Washburn began operations last Saturday at noon and has run uninterrupted since. Manager George Moore and Foreman Wm Shoshea praise the start and note over one hundred men are employed, signaling a boost to the city.
Mrs Wm Obern was in Ashland last Tuesday. James Scott and father Adam Scott Sr were in Reserve Wisconsin several days this week.
The White Earth Chippewas of Minnesota and related bands faced a court of Claims hearing on land titles and enrollment disputes stemming from 1854 1855 1889 treaties and the Nelson Act. Contenders argue guardianship and scrip history affect current rights while respondents insist birth ties and continuous enrollment grant standing.
Thos Sloane and the Kelloggs will sue The New Republic in Ohio over articles about them and their ally Johnson likely to publish in vindication. Sloane famed for his last year run for Commissioner of Indian Affairs draws northwest support for the forthcoming action.
Elmer Sanders of Ashland now in Minneapolis trains with Joe Carr and plans a return match against Walter Willoughby of Mellen in Ashland. Willoughby defeated Sanders in straight falls earlier this spring, but Sanders hopes to reverse the result under Carr’s tutelage. Both competitors are said to be in higher class, making the bout a worthy trip.

Land near Stone Lake and in Marinette county will host homes and an academy for Indian children. More than 400 tribe members live in Marinette County.
Wisconsin Ashland County Probate Court to hear on May first Tuesday 1914 at 10 AM the application of George A Day to admit the will of John Bockway deceased of Sanborn to probate and grant letters testamentary to Day. James McCully County Judge John Walsh Attorney for petitioner.
