Government After Supa Saloon Suspicions At Federal Court

A federal court dragnet in Superior targets saloon keepers alleged to sell liquor to Indians. Six federal sleuths gather evidence as Indians attend the grand jury session, with indictments expected. Debates arise over holding court on reservations to curb liquor exposure and save expenses for Native communities. The adjourned session left nine defendants arraigned, including Joseph Baker and his wife Whiskey Martin, who pleaded not guilty.

Catholic Ladies Plan St Patrick Social at M W A Hall

The Ladies of the Catholic church announce a St Patrick social at the M W A hall on March 17. A nice program will be rendered and a ride card event will be held. Lunch will be served. Admission is 25 cents. Everyone is invited to attend.

U S Marshal Appleby Finds Warrants In Saxon Wisconsin

U S Marshal Appleby spent several days in the village this week serving warrants for liquor law violations on reservations. Accompanied by S J Stienstra, they secured a number of prisoners in Saxon Wisconsin.

Interior renovation at Morrison Bros store in village

The C. E. Morrison Bros. are renovating their up-to-date village store. New shelving and racks are being installed, walls will be papered, and window backgrounds plus woodwork will be varnished in white enamel and red oak. Fen Anderson of Ashland is confined at St Josephs Hospital this week following an operation. He has many friends here who will be pleased to learn he is on the high road to recovery.

Ladies Aid Meet at M. E. church home

The Ladies Aid Society of the M. E. church met at Mrs. Wm Couture’s home last Tuesday for a pleasant afternoon with refreshments. Attendees included Mesdames Stoddard Connors Morrison Martin Charette Smart Mitchell White etc. The next meeting will be at Mrs. George Mitchell’s on Ashland Ave March 24. Various lodge and meeting notices follow with rental and sale notices for local properties and a gasoline launch offered for quick sale.
