Our New Senator Paul O Hustings Portrait of a Menominee Chief’s Heir

A sketch introduces Paul O Hustings as the new state senator. He lives in Mayville Wisconsin with his brother and runs a low business. He traces lineage to Ahkenepawek Standing Earth, a Menominee chief who advised a large band and signed the Stambaugh treaty in 1831. He is a grandson of Solomon and Josette Vieau Juneau, and his family roots reach Milwaukee’s early settlement near the river outlet. He was born in Fond du Lac County and grew up in Mayville Dodge County.

St Marys Pupils Enjoy Ride to Ashland

Pupils from room VII rode to Ashland on a pleasant day aided by St Agnes church faculty. Basketball occupied time during the trip and a Feb 22 rematch with St Agnes is planned at St Agnes Hall. Taken Back to Leavenworth Visit by Indian Agent Ends

Chas Kekek of the village, jailed last fall for introducing liquor on the reservation, was released to see his gravely ill daughter near Birch. Indian Agent Everest sought authority from officials. Leavenworth warden released him in charge of a guard, then Kekek returned to the prison after his parole expired. A 75-strong Indian inmate contingent at Leavenworth was noted, largely Sioux accused of horse and cattle stealing. A birthday surprise party was held for F E Greene with many attendees.

Died Here While On Visit 13 Year Old Boy

Geo Patrick of Hayward Wisconsin nephew of Rev J W Martin of this village died while visiting at Mr Martins home last week. He was taken to Hayward for burial.

Ashland County Supervisors Propose 1914 Budget

The Ashland County Board of Supervisors met in Ashland on November 10 1914 to appoint a budget committee and begin drafting the 1914 tax budget. The Budget Committee reported figures for the 1915 fiscal year and the board adopted a resolution for the 1914 tax levy to cover general and special county expenditures totaling 1390000 dollars before adjustments.

May Train Indians for Army Service

Washington reports a plan to create an Indian military school modeled on West Point to train Indian boys 17 to 20 for army service. The proposal, backed by army officers, would replace Carlisle and place students in Indian states near their homes, under a board of control and signed by graduates with a service obligation. Will Wrestle Here Tuesday in Loyal Theatre

Elmer Sanders of Ashland and Martin Johnson of Duluth will wrestle Tuesday evening at the Loyal Theatre after the show.
