Ashland County Fair Opens Under New Officers

Frank S. Hooge is named president and Alec Gingles vice president as Ashland County Fair schedules September 28 to 30 at the old fair grounds. Repairs planned include grandstand roofing, track work, renewed boardwalks, stronger fences, stock sheds, judges stand and dressing rooms. Exhibitors may buy a fifty cent season ticket admitting all days, with church groups offered free meals and ticket concessions to boost participation.

A Nevada delegate G W Ingalls reports the U S Indian Service conference held in California August 3 to 13 was a grand success. Hon Cato Sells Commissioner of Indian Affairs gave remarks on field workers. Rev Sherman Coolidge president of the Society of American Indians attended and participated.

County fair seeks broad support with $1 season tickets

No donations have been reported from county businessmen but officials express hope for wide backing. Season tickets priced at one dollar will be sold countywide including Bayfield County to fund the fair. Tickets are available from Secretary Howard H. Myers at Box 456 Ashland. President Chooge, reluctant yet committed, pledges support along with Mr. Gingles who will aid the fair’s success.

Much Disputed Allotment List Approved In Wisconsin

The long contested allotment list for timber rights has been approved and distribution to about 400 to 500 new allottees will start soon. The act provides $500000 to be shared as timber is cut, with remaining timber estimated at 194,500,000 feet to be processed over years, aiding manufacturing and hopeful farm home developments as the timber is depleted.

Indian man arrested for horse stealing in Arizona

J. F. Rankin, said to be from Wisconsin, an Indian living in Prescott, was arrested by undersheriff Marks and Deputy Guy Bozarth on horse stealing charges in Flagstaff. He rented a horse, traveled to Ash Fork, then to P. and E. Junction before walking back to Prescott, not returning by nightfall. Local sheriffs and deputies intervened before Sheriff William Dickinson and Deputy Charley Smith could reach Prescott.

House Struck by Lightning on Kaka gon Ave

The Bennett residence on Kaka gon Ave was struck by lightning during last Monday afternoons storm. Occupants were absent, interior damaged with a room walls riddled by the bolt and the chimney nearly destroyed. Mr. Cole installed lightning rods this week. Mesdames LaRock and Stewart of Brule Wis visited here earlier this week.
