Temperance Lodge Organized With Twenty-Two Charter Members

A new Templar Lodge was organized in the Council hall with twenty two charter members. Dr W M Wooster of Washington DC spoke on liquor effects on Indians and whites, praising the movement to suppress liquor. Chief Blackbird lauded the step and urged broader tribal participation amid a nationwide push.

Giants Lose Sunday Baseball Thriller to Ashland

The Odanak Giants fell 4 to 5 last Sunday in a tight game against Ashland. They managed only three hits while Ashland collected ten, with Ashland scoring the winning run in the ninth after a costly error. The Giants face Bessemer next, hoping to end a losing streak.

Will Give Big Show At Loyal Theatre August Event

The F. R. A. Lodge plans a big show at the Loyal Theatre next Wednesday evening August 26. Members promise a top quality performance by A1 calibre hustlers. On August 28 Supreme President E R Hicks of Oshkosh Wisconsin will speak at the F R A Lodge rooms in the M W A Hall on an insurance topic.

In September primaries Frank Waterbury, a Republican candidate with long village ties, seeks the County Treasurer post. Once a C and NW Railway engineer, he left due to illness and may not return to that role, yet pledges two clear administrations if elected.

Enrollment Proceeding for Indian Band Enriches Reservation

A large council at St. Marys Hall governs enrollment of unallotted Indians to divide remaining timber and distribute 500 000 dollars. W M Wooster leads the roll with five elected band members as Bayfield delegates arrive for rapid processing. The plan aims for a fair roll, with 493 allotments left and payments to follow after Interior approval.

Birch Wis Mill to Resume Operations With New Machinery

N J Sero visited Birch Wisconsin this week to hire experienced men for starting his mill. He already runs a neat saw mill there, produced much lumber last fall and winter, and plans to resume cutting next week. A lath mill will operate in connection, creating an up to date small mill in the area.

Fair This Fall to Be Sugesss Fair This Fall

The council unanimously votes to hold a fall fair on the reservation with dates to be set next week by the fair committee. Indian farmers anticipate larger exhibits in live stock and vegetables as they prepare improved stocks and roads funding boosts expected to bloom the reservation into productive farms and better roads.

Couple Weds at St Marys Church in Local Parish

Wm. Beauregard known as Wm. Charette and Miss Jennie Rabideaux were married at St. Marys Church last Monday morning. A wedding dance at the Loyal Theatre followed, attended by many young friends. The couple plan to make the city their home.

SIG Family Reunion Held Across Generations

A four generations family reunion gathered last Wednesday at H. L. Lucas residence in the village. Attendees included Ed Bachand James Bach Mrs H L Lucas Mrs Alex Charette and Mesdames C H Anderson Peter Clyne Mrs DePlante and Louis Reynolds Robert Reynolds Clif ford Wilds and wife of L Anse Michigan, with John Pennock Henry Blatchford Wm Green and Mrs Harris of Ashland. A very pleasant evening was enjoyed by all.

John Forcia, a prosperous reservation farmer west of the village, lists four horses two cattle and one bull heifer when asked by Government farmer S J Stienstra. The exchange prompts speculation about a new breed of critters and a possible investigation by the farmer.

Road crews improve county roads on south side

The J. Stearn Lter Co. workers completed road bed work this week on the south side of the river in Witdicion and will maintain them in first class condition. The writer urges similar care for the north side to match local standards.
