Commercial Club to Be Formed in Our Village

A meeting will be called to form a Commercial Club aimed at securing manufacturing enterprises for the village. With the J S Stearns Lumber Company completing timber cuts soon, plans include a tannery, woodenware factory, and stave mill to create long term work and growth. Citizens are urged to organize and promote local development in the near future.

Purchases the Briggs Farm on Ashland Road

Edw Haskins buys the Briggs Farm on Ashland road near Bear Trap adjoining his own land. He will clear and cultivate it in spring, operating with his current farm. Purchased from Ashford Brewery Co. for 3800 dollars including buildings. Once cultivated, his holdings will be the largest in the district. Mrs Don Whitmore visited Ashland last Monday.

Board of Review Meets at Summits Town Hall

The Sanborn township Board of Review met at the Summits town hall to hear complaints but no business was transacted. Members include Alex Gingles, M J Flanley, Henry Raffles, with E L Greene, D P Riley, and Ed Kielty. Jury lists for the August circuit term were drawn by George Derringer, C A Poundstone, and John Berg, with the term starting August 23 and jurors summoned for August 24.

Prince Cleveland Faces Knife Threat After Warpath Attempt

Prince Cleveland a porter at J O Starrs billiard hall armed with a hunting knife was stopped by police after an alleged plan to harm Mr Starr. He was arrested and jailed in Ashland awaiting trial with a $500 bond set and a Tuesday hearing scheduled.

Miss Lucy Connors and W H Schroder were married in Hot Springs Arkansas last week. The couple will stay in the village for several weeks. Miss Connors has many friends here who are surprised by the marriage and plan to visit.

DIES ON WAY TO HOSPITAL AT STEARNS CAMP

Last Friday noon an employee at a Stearns camp died en route to St Joseph hospital in Ashland. Initial sun stroke was ruled out as the cause. an earlier fall left him unconscious and he died while being transported.

Richard Holmes accepts the position of assistant postmaster under Rostnashey W. Denomie. He takes over the post previously held by John Anderson who has served for years under Vic Walker and Denomie and plans to leave for Canada where his parents are moving.

Mrs Cadreau Leaves for Montana to Join Baseball Husband

Mrs William Cadreau departed yesterday afternoon for Glasgow Montana to join her husband Wm Cadreau who is pitching for Glasgow in the State league. Earlier this spring he played for Duluth and Virginia teams in the Northern League.

Will Preach On Camp Grounds Sermon at Village Camp

Rev. M. Taylor of Ashland M. E. Church will preach next Sunday at 2 30 p m on the camp grounds west of the village. Mgr Susie Greensky of Old Mission Mich will assist with women and children teaching. Prohibition talks are a main feature. Wm Ghern and family returned this week from LaCrosse Wisconsin.
