In Lexington Kentucky Desha Breckinridge clashed with James Livingstone in the Phoenix hotel. Breckinridge drew a dirk wounding Livingstone’s hand. Lane and bystanders restrained Breckinridge as Livingstone was treated. Tension spilled onto Main Street with insults directed at Judge Kinkead. Lane defended Breckinridge speeches amid threats.
Burglars blew the postoffice safe early this morning at St Thomas, North Dakota, gaining about 450 dollars in stamps and 15 dollars in money order funds. A fuse blasted the safe door, leaving remaining cash, money orders, and registered letters untouched. An attempted break at the Great Northern Express office failed. Night clerk fired at the intruders. they escaped. Officers scour the countryside.
Vienna cables report Dr Anton von Plitschek former Austro Hungarian consul general to the United States was dismissed from the consular service amid accusations he forced Austrian exhibitors to pay for space and embezzled $15000 bequeathed to three hospitals by a Hungarian heart. The ex consul allegedly benefited a friend of Louis Kossith, said to have a fortune of $5,000,000.
Father J Ahern, Catholic priest in Sioux Falls, was arrested on an assault charge brought by William Early. he was released on own recognizance. Early’s sister was acquitted. The case arose from scandalous allegations reportedly made by Mrs Early. Ahern obtained a statement from Mrs Early refuting the claims. After leaving the house Early reportedly struck at Ahern with a spade, prompting the arrest. The full matter is said to involve sensational facts expected to be presented to Mgr. Torelli.
Vallejo tale reports Commander McCalla, naval equipment officer at Mare Island, clashed with hay contractor Robert Gore over payment. Gore claimed insult and threatened, prompting McCalla to peel his uniform and bar the door as Gore pursued him through the room before the door was finally broken open. Officials will review Gore’s account for a possible court martial.
Bradstreet's signs show general trade improving week over week with favorable features sustained. In the South reports from Baltimore Nashville Chicago St Louis Portland and San Francisco indicate unusually strong business, especially Baltimore jobbers in dry goods. Southern regions show abundant merchandise distribution and easy merchantable collections while fruit and coal areas lag.

In Fall River Massachusetts on September 23 only a handful of Sea Conner mills are operating and all are non union. Durfee mill runs near full capacity with about three fourths of looms active. Pickets guard mills to deter workers from returning. Both unions pay strike wages with about five thousand dollars for each side. Leaders insist they will not return at lower pay.
A silent man was found unconscious near the Hed River in Grand Forks North Dakota with severe head and neck wounds from a heavy hickory club. Officials believe he arrived yesterday from Rat Portage with his attacker. He cannot identify himself and may die. Dozens of officers search the woods for the assailant with no clues at present.
Washington reports a pay question arising from the August 1 1894 act. Surfmen employed more than eight months were fixed at 90 per month. If stations do not close by December under the new law they would not be entitled to more than 60.
In St Paul on September 23 Corover Whitcomb believes he found a leg to the unsolved Martin P. Erickson murder from last spring. This morning the half naked body of Charles C. Hangon was found on East Eighth street. He died by carbenic avid. a notebook with a diagram of the murder scene was found. The coroner would not disclose directions of the crew.
Congressman Dave Mercer will introduce a bill in the next session to award James Root a Congressional Medal for heroically saving a passenger train during the Hinckley forest fires. Mercer notes Root stayed at his post amid flames, guiding the train to safety and helping passengers, while advocating equal recognition for railroad and marine heroes.

John Lindstrom was injured when a trench caved in at Rogmin's hardware store on Twentieth and Washington avenues north in Minneapolis. He was buried under earth for a short time, extricated and revived, suffering severe cuts and bruises.
Fire swept through the Journal office in Escababa Michigan last night and threatened total destruction before fire crews arrived. The building was insured though the plant was not, with the blaze believed sparked by a defective chimney.
The Duluth robber s union has passed resolutions urging Gov Nelson to appoint a Duluth man to replace Gen Becker on the railway and warehouse commission. It also asks the Duluth board of trade and chamber of commerce and the boards of trade of St. Cloud Mankato and Crookston to support the move.

A Very Old Man from Oshkosh dies yesterday in Delhi, Wisconsin. Paul Poller, a French Canadian born veteran of the War of 1812, would have turned 105 on November 1. Poller may have been the state’s oldest living man.

Patrick White a woodsman for Cranberry Timber company was crushed yesterday by a rolling log at Cranberry. The fatal accident occurred at the mill site and authorities are investigating the incident.
Philadelphia September 23. About 150 employees of Alex Grow carpet manufacture go on strike demanding 20 cents more per hour in wages. The stoppage affects production at the plant in the city. The firm plans negotiations with the workers to resolve the dispute.
