Big Four Wreck Near Cleves Kills Five In Train Collision

A Sunday morning collision on the Big Four near Cleves killed five and injured twelve to fifteen as a schedule change caused a freight train to misjudge the track ahead. The Aurora Cincinnati passenger train, diverted early, struck a freight at speed, destroying engines and cars. Names of the deceased include W. Enwanna of Greensburg Indiana and William Hicks of Lawrenceburg Indiana, among others. Rescue trains and telegraph lines were disrupted for hours while survivors were cared for. the total fatalities may rise further.
