Dr Hoffmann of Frankfort and the creation of Shock Headed Peter

The 83 year old Dr Hoffmann, head physician in Frankfurt, wrote the first picture book for his young son after finding existing books too ornate. He improvised with a copybook of simple pictures and, with publisher Dr Loning, produced a modest initial edition. The book flourished, selling through many editions in German and English.

Pranks of a Pet Coon at Green's Landing

A tale from Green's Landing recalls Capt. Weed presenting a South Carolina Desk coon to the Ocean View house. Labor Invest: House Committee Members Mull Views

Washington July 17 There is difference of opinion among congressmen about whether the presidential appointed commission to probe the Chicago strike will interfere with the interstate commerce committee inquiry. Members expect no interference and favor laws requiring notice before discharge or wage cuts and before workers strike, while preserving rights to strike. They also consider applying maritime contract principles to interstate commerce.
