Troops Charge Strikers at Chicago Stock Yards

Chicago July 6 regular troops from the Fifteenth Infantry under Major Hartz dispersed 3,000 strikers blocking a meat train at the stock yards entrance. Troops cleared the yards after bayonets fixed and orders to move on double quick. The mob fled. engines were pulled off trains and fights continued at other yards as crowds gathered. General Miles said trouble might be averted. potential troop arrivals from Fort Leavenworth discussed.

Knights of Labor Strike Ordered from Omaha to Coast

A dispatch reports General Master Workman Sovereign ordered a strike of all Knights of Labor from Omaha to the Pacific coast. Carrington North Dakota July 6 trains have not run on the Jamestown and Northern branch of the Northern Pacific since Thursday. New Rockford Melville and other points on the line receive mail via the Soo at this place.
