Want Hill for Leader as New York Democrats Endorse Him
In New York the Democratic convention opened under cloudy skies with committee actions and a clash over protests. Temporary chairman Beebe lauded Senator Hill and signaled support for his presidential bid, while General Sickles won permanent chairmanship and the convention adopted credentials and platform resolutions. A faction opposed to the convention formed in Syracuse, urging an alternate gathering, and a provisional state committee was planned with Charles S. Fairchild likely to lead. In Minnesota, ex Governor McGill faced questions about a gubernatorial run as veterans pressed for a decision.
