Grain and livestock figures from RO Minneapolis St Paul and Chicago show September wheat at 55 cents and pork at 13 55, hogs up 10 cents in St Paul, and cattle steady. Chicago notes active hogs and varied pork and cattle ranges. Washington reports Chairman Cummings forwarding the armor plate inquiry report to print, with a near thousand page volume, and possible navy action against certain plate contracts with Carnegie.
Yard by Mexico Washington August 22 A long running state department case ends with the Mexican government agreeing to pay Mrs Leon McLeod Baldwin twenty thousand dollars as indemnity for the assassination of her husband, who was superintendent of the Valencia mines. He was killed in August 1887 during a tour of mines owned by American capitalists.
In New York a man and a woman were found dead in Central Park's ramble. The man had a bullet wound to the head and the woman a shot to the left breast. Police cannot determine if death was self-inflicted or if the man killed the woman before taking his own life. Believed names are Julius Danaren and Julia Pauurier, both French, ages about 28 and younger.
Deputy Internal Revenue Collector Belden visited Hokah to collect evidence on illegal liquor sales by the La Crosse Moltke Soldiers’ Aid Society. Prosecutions appear likely alongside a Houston case where a Norwegian society of La Crosse sold liquor retail and wholesale.
A Pullman relative visiting Chicago today denied any engagement between Miss Florence Pullman and Prince Isepburg-Birstein. The relative rejected the rumor as absolute nonsense, noting Miss Pullman is in Europe and declining to discuss the prince or betrothal.
Shanghai dispatch reports Gen. Lo says Chinese forces attacked near Ping Yang and Chung Ho, driving Japanese eleven miles to Chung Ho and retaking Chung Ho after a second assault with heavy Japanese casualties. A further major battle was anticipated. Abbott Bent in New Orleans notes 5,000 spectators watched Stanton Abbott and Jack Everhart in a 25 round gloves match. Everhart won after a tight contest with Abbott leading early rounds.
George J. Moore son of Dr G A Moore president of Pacific Mutual Insurance was shot by his brother Harry today as they left the insurance office where both work as clerks. Harry, aged twenty four, was arrested. In Duluth C M Beck held for swindling will be turned over to the U S marshal after ninety days and prosecuted for illegal use of nails. Beck identified as a well known all around crook Morey arrested with Beck and tied to M EB Morey under tat Slater
In Dover on August 22 the Republican state convention met in the capitol to nominate candidates for governor and congress. Joshua St. Hartville of Laurel was named for governor and Rev. Jonathan Willis of Milford for congress as the platform reaffirmed protectionist policy for American industries.
Chicago and Northwestern shops in Huron resume operation with a smaller crew after over a month shutdown. Payroll will approach previous levels as workers shift to ten hour days. In New York, agents consider depositing $25,000 for the Corbett Jackson boxing match with Sioux City Athletic Club to finalize the article of agreement.
After a four year lapse, four cowardly murderers of cattle dealer John S. Frazer have been captured. The suspects are two prominent farmers or business men in the vicinity, and their arrest has caused a sensation locally.

Ground broken at the New Blackwell’s Island bridge marks a major Long Island Railroad entrance to New York City. The span over the river will be 685 feet on the island side with five piers, carrying four tracks plus two roadways and footpaths. The bridge links Ravenswood to Sunnyside and connects to the Long Island Railroad, with a steel viaduct on the island side and a probable cut‑off to Manhattan Beach for a faster, forty‑minute ride from Union Station. Hutton a famed oarsman associated with the Paris Evew crew is among the dead.
Chicago banker C. B. Niehoff who vanished a year ago with a $19,411 shortage was arrested at Brighton Illinois. He had hidden on Illinois farms for a year never leaving the state according to reports. Relatives say he was injured by a head fall four years ago and not responsible.
The Call Printing Company of St Paul was legally incorporated today with capital stock of 50000. Incorporators include H F P Hall of St Paul C W Ostrand er and H J Weigel of Chicago. The firm will publish the Morning Call a new Democratic morning paper.
Mrs. H. C. Smith of Minneapolis identifies the forger arrested at Diath and will testify against Nin. The accused faces likely imprisonment, with Mrs. Smith expected to travel to Stillwater to testify. Aug 22 narrative notes the proceeding and potential consequences.
