Elevator Charge Cut Threatens Great Northern System

Rumors say Great Northern Elevator Company controlled by J. S. Hill will slash handling and storage charges by more than 50 percent, potentially triggering similar cuts among rivals. Elevators at West Superior handle 3,000,000 bushels. current rates are 11 4 cents per bushel for first 20 days and 1 1/2 cents for each 15 days thereafter. If enacted, wheat storage costs could fall dramatically and affect elevator values and competition around Minneapolis as crops approach harvest.

Fire destroys Hubbard estate barns near Oshkosh Wis

An Oshkosh Wis morning fire destroyed the Hubbard estate cattle barns southeast of the city. Five horses and a calf died, 2000 bushels of grain and 45 tons of hay burned, along with eight stacks of grain. Many farming implements and machinery burned. The blaze spread to standing grain, burning twenty acres. Estimated loss is 8000 dollars.
