The Town notes social visits including Mrs. Tule and Miss Amerson Brown in Chicago. Local clubs report sixty five membership inquiries at the Oaks Club and several residents traveling or ill. Church events and community updates fill pages with addresses, arrivals, and gatherings across Oak Park and nearby towns.
Rev. John D. Collins has accepted a unanimous call to lead Second Baptist Church of Austin starting October 1. The church repairs its old Presbyterian building and plans to resume services in the large room next Sunday. Collins, born November 20 1865 near Bainbridge Indiana, is praised as earnest and capable by ministers who know him.
A Saturday football game between Austin High School and the Tigers ex-West Side players ended in a general fight over a disputed umpire call. Bystander Thomas Oliphant of 306 South Central was knocked down and kicked in the face by W. E. McGurren of 553 Grand Avenue Chicago, then aided by others. Oliphant received treatment at Garner's drug store.
Mrs J F Gormley of 304 S Austin Ave was struck by an east bound train while crossing elevated tracks Saturday evening. She suffered a fractured skull and facial injuries but is expected to recover. She was taken to Traill and Cooling's drug store after the incident.
In Chicago an independent cavalry group named the Chicago Rough Riders forms under Col J W Clarke a former brigade commissary in the Spanish American War. Men aged 18 to 25 with sound health and good character may join by calling Harry H Kellogg 232 N Park Ave Austin after 7 pm for details. The group aims to mimic army rules with minimal expense.

A child was born to Mr. and Mrs. Detmar of Lathrop avenue on Saturday September 23. Thomas Mellen now runs Jacob Gold's barber shop at 88 Desplaines avenue. Mrs. Reppening of Franklin street marks her forty sixth birthday at Mrs. Gaden's home on September 30. Miss Seekert of Chicago married Mr. William Samuel of Brown avenue at the bride's parents home on Congress street Chicago.
