Seven hundred uniformed men and a torch-light procession fill Austin as Oak Park and all wards join a massive meeting. Senator Fairbanks delivers a lengthy address on prosperity while praising Lorimer, with plan to feature other officials and a large crowd at the big tent event.

AUSTIN CAN HAD TRAINING in Austin discussed starting a manual training school at the high school with a projected $400 cost for tools and benches. A. G. Lane announced a qualified instructor would be provided after January 1, 1901 if citizens raise funds. Cicero Council No. 590 hosted visiting councils at 103 N Park Ave on Oct 12, 1900 with Mr Graves of Riverside delivering recitations and a night of speeches and refreshments.
Mr James Mangle proprietor of a fruit store at 48th street and Lake Moreland forfeited a 10000 dollar bond signed by wholesale fruit firms and disappeared. He was prosecuted by a girl in his employ and locals fear he should not return to the area.
A longtime manager resigned to work on Elgin construction. G T Gubbons, formerly at Lake Forest, is appointed to run the Austin exchange and has moved here with his family. The same operators are retained.
The Oaks Club held its opening party last Friday night in Library Hall with about 150 couples attending. Music was provided by Fitzgerald and Prof Meyer's Orchestra, marking a major social season feature and keeping up with past similar events.
