Oak Park Tennis Tournament Draws Big Crowd

The Oak Park Tennis Club will host its annual Oak Park championship July 4 to July 8 at the club grounds corner Kenilworth Avenue and Washington Boulevard. Prizes include a Prairie Club silver cup and racquet sets, plus various gear and balls. Trial of F. H. Baramm for cruelty to animals

Prominent Austin and Oak Park residents attended the trial of F. H. Baramm charged with cruelty to animals. Baramm claimed innocence and intoxication, while witness Mrs. J. H. Gormley testified he was drunk. He was discharged after praising his own care for the dog.

Pickett Bruce Wedding Quiet Kentucky Couple Wed

Miss Elizabeth Bacon Pickett and Ar Alexander Bruce were married Thursday at 8 PM at the bride’s home 334 Thatcher avenue with Rev C P Anderson officiating. Glen Pickett served as maid of honor and Pierce of Chicago was best man. After a short trip the couple will reside in Madison Wisconsin where Bruce is a University of Wisconsin law professor.

Ladies of the G A R form circle in Austin

A meeting for ladies interested in forming a Ladies of the G A R circle in Austin will be held at Odd Fellows Hall North Park Avenue Friday July 7 at 2 o clock. All Civil War veterans families are invited including mothers wives daughters sisters and widows. Kilpatrick Post members are especially urged to attend. Sunday School Picnic at Mill Creek Park

A very large crowd attended the Sunday school picnic on Friday June 23 at Mill Creek Park under four Congregational churches. The day was perfect with games athletics boating and fishing. Entertainment was free to children funded by church members.

At a Wednesday night meeting Austin Baptist church members given letters and withdrew to organize a new independent church named Second Baptist church of Austin. They have rented part of the old Presbyterian church on South boulevard and will hold regular church services and a Sunday school.

Maywood Strike at Norton Factory Sparks Violent Clashes

Strikers halt cars and block seating as disputes persist at Norton shops. A free soup house opens for strikers while Melrose saloons are barred from serving beer in pails. About fifty machinists quit work on Tuesday, amid a hand to hand fight that left foreman Ed Harter accused of assault with intent to kill. Factories run with half staff as new workers are hired.

Closing exercises honor Hawthorne pupils and graduates

On Thursday night June 22 room 3 held closing exercises with a student program and diplomas awarded by President Squires. Three graduates were Jeannie Sellar Gertrude Collins and Benjamin Nelson. Benjamin won Franklin's Autobiography as top average in room 3 while Lucile Olsen Ruby Wart and Lucile Emry noted for punctuality among 137 primary 61 intermediate and 53 grammar students.
