Prohibition District Declared in Harlem Area
At a Harlem village board meeting last Saturday night the area between Harlem avenue Cleveland street and the Wisconsin Central tracks was voted a prohibition district. There are no saloons in the district at present.

Prof G Chas Griffiths reports Austin north of the Chicago and Northwestern line has a population of 7241. The area east of Austin avenue to 62nd street contains 2975 under 21, 1000 under 6, 115 between 6 and 21 attend non public schools, 116 Tennellalls for next year, and four between ages 7 and 14 who did not attend school sixteen weeks last year.

The Methodist community in Austin held a midweek service at 7 PM to break ground for a new church set for completion this summer. Rev A M White spoke, and the first dig was by longtime church officer Andrew Lindsley. Clergy leaders and prominent residents attended. several hundred were present.

Aluminum Pencil Reveals Hidden Characters On Glass
A Geneva inventor, Mr. Charles Margot, reports that an aluminum pencil can inscribe indelible marks on glass or porcelain. When etched with hydrochloric acid the surface bears the characters. when burnished they resemble inlaid silver. Grease removal is essential, and the effect requires silicic acid substrates. Other metals magnesium cadmium and zinc show similar behavior but oxidize quickly.

Also includes preliminary assessment No. 359 for Pleasant Street grading curbing and macadamizing from Oak Park to Harlem and another for Pleasant Street from Ridgeland to Oak Park.
