Annual Picnic Planned by Austin Business Men
The Austin Business Men Association votes to hold its annual picnic at Laurelwood Park on Thursday July 20. Owing to Crystal Lake lease to a private firm Laurelwood offers better facilities including pavilion, bicycle track, grand stand, boat fleet and a new steamer. Bicycle races replace road race with planned five mile and three mile events and prizes already secured. J P Eames to collect entrants. Tickets stay at 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children under 12.

Justice Fines Conspiracy Defendant in Cicero Case

Fire in Norton factory rolling mills sparks scare
A small fire broke out Saturday at 2:30 am in Norton's factory rolling mills near Maywood. Ten workers were present as an overheated furnace, installed three weeks ago, ignited and damaged the building. No arson. damage estimated at about $2,000 with immediate repairs planned.

George Clapp Goodyear manager dies suddenly in Oak Park
George Clapp, general manager of the Chicago branch of the Goodyear Rubber Company, died at his home 382 North Oak Park Avenue Tuesday morning after a heart attack. Born March 19, 1833 in Providence Rhode Island he married Sarah Gray in 1864 and leaves a daughter Anka Clapp. Funeral services were held Friday at his residence with private burial.

The Austin High School held its Tuesday evening declamation contest with contestants Robert Burbank Clarence Barker Fred Francis Rollis Cleverdon Roscoe McCord Gertrude Hutchinson. Judges were Rev A M White Clayton E Crafts and John E Wright. Frederick A Babcock presented prizes funded by John Farson. Roscoe McCord won first prize of 15 dollars and Clarence Barker won second prize of 10 dollars.

Miss Minnie Fleck, a Hinsdale young woman, came to Austin on Tuesday to visit a friend at Mrs. McCoy's home on 118 Baird Avenue. After pursuing a grocery clerk without success she bought Paris green at Marco Williams on Fifty-third Street and took it during a personal crisis. Dr. Dickenson attended her. she survives.
