Chess champion Harry N. Pillsbury toured Chicago last week playing daily at the Chicago Chess Club. Thirty five players competed Saturday including three from Cicero. Pillsbury won two, drew three, and lost two in the session. Local players Town, Stangland, Crook, and Nourse posted results as Austin club grows stronger amid a 70 game grand tournament.

John I F Cremin died unexpectedly January 5 in New York at age 42 after a short grippe illness. He leaves a wife and seven children and was active in St. Catherine’s church community, Catholic circles in Chicago, and the Chicago real estate board where he served as a director and partner of Thomas Brennan. Funeral was January 8 at St. Vincent’s church with burial in New York.

Anniversary Week at Oak Park First Methodist Church

Mrs Frances Mary Dales Passes Quietly Away
Mrs Frances Mary Dales born November 21 1816 in Monticello New York died Sabbath morning after a long life. She married Dr Mra Dales in 1836 and lived in Port Jervis Erie railroad surgeon. The couple later moved to Aurora New Jersey then Chicago and finally Austin where she resided since the great fire.

Barbara Grosswiler Dies at 77 After 35 Years in Palatine
Barbara Grosswiler mother of Mrs. Louisa Ritmiller of 117 Baird Avenue died Wednesday at age 77. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon conducted by Revs. Johnson and McCullough at the residence. The remains were conveyed to Long Grove near Palatine for interment, she had resided in that area for about 35 years.

Merrick Park has hosted a gala skating scene for two weeks. The Austin fire department flooded the lot to aid skaters, giving space equal to Garfield Park. Youngsters and many adults laud the five laddies of Austin as the best ever, with President Emerson praised for promoting them.
