Wolves Survive Night Attack by Sledge in Pennsylvania Snow
In northern Pennsylvania a party of three timber cruisers Mellon Rodgers and Mix Baum sought shelter from wolves after packing bear and turkey carcasses for Christmas. They fortified a hay yard, repelled repeated wolf assaults with rifles and axes, and escaped eight miles to a cabin. They killed several wolves, hung their hides, and reached safety to celebrate Christmas with bear meat and cider.
