Cicero Town Board meets in regular session July 31 1899
Cicero Town Board convened at Town Hall in Austin with President Lewis and seven trustees present. Minutes of June 26 and July 17 sessions approved. Numerous communications referred to committees, including Hawthorne race track closure funding, street lighting contracts, police officer appointment, fire company needs, warrants and warrants cancellation, and a lamp installation petition.

Death of Dudley Stone Follows Train Wreck West of Boone
Dudley S Stone of Austin died in a wreck one and a half miles west of Boone Iowa at the Kate Shelly Curve. The fast mail train derailed killing Stone and several crew including the engineer and fireman. Stone aged thirty five was a former post clerk and chief clerk at the time of death. He was married nine years to Florence Lamcaster and they have a nine month old son named Dudley C. The community extends sympathy to his wife and family with funeral services held at the Baptist church conducted by Reverend White and Reverend Satterfield.

Man Killed Crossing Fifty-Third Street by Colorado Special
About 8 oclock Saturday evening H K H Frang was struck while crossing the Fifty-Third street crossing on his wheel by the eastbound Colorado Special. The engineer reversed after impact and workers removed the crushed remains. Frang, 54, of 330 Fifty-First Avenue, leaves a widow and six children. An inquest at Kamp's found death accidental. jurors named were J A Rush Earl Holland Frank Browser Nat Spandfard and Charles Hitchcock. The crossing is noted as dangerous due to lack of sufficient lighting from the elevated structure.

Vandewolff Assaulted in Park. Suspects Apprehended
D C Vandewolff was struck with a brick by two Chicago youths, Green 19 and Prisco 17, as he walked home. They were caught near Fifty-Third Avenue by Officers Kruger and Andrews, charged with assault and battery. Green was fined 100 dollars and costs. Prisco pleaded guilty and paid 10 dollars plus costs.

Death of Sam Dunfee from Indiana community
