Flag Pole Crash at Park School Halts Dismissal
A strong gust toppled the large flag pole in front of Park School just after the first dismissal bell. The 150 foot pole snapped into three pieces but no one was hurt as the wind blew the top toward the empty campus. The Board of Education plans to replace the pole soon.

Daniel Owens Dead at 71 in Walden Home
Daniel Owens aged 71 died of heart failure Thursday night at his sister Mrs Jane Franklin’s home on Walnut Street. He had lived in Pennsylvania before moving to Walden about twenty years ago and is survived by two sisters Mrs Sarah Belton and Mrs Richard Peever and a brother Robert Owens. Funeral arrangements were to be held at the house Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with burial in the Methodist Cemetery.

Long sentence for Yountakah Club burglary
John Ward aged sixty five was captured April 22 1915 after the Yountakah Country Club burglary. He received an indeterminate term of one to seven years in Paterson on the charge while already serving Caldwell sentence and re arrested after release. Police say Ward has spent nearly thirty years in jail.

Nutley Club Hosts First Banquet at Masonic Hall
The Nutley Club held its inaugural banquet at Masonic Hall on Thursday night despite bad weather. About seventy-five attended, with twenty-five seasoned members among them. Local Boy Earns Navy Marksman Medal for Sharpshooter Skill
Frederick Clark of this town has been awarded the Navy Marksman Medal by the United States Marine Corps. An official report from the State Rifle Range at Jacksonville Florida notes his bullseye accuracy from standing kneeling and sitting positions. Clark enlisted at the Newark recruiting station July 24 1916 and now sails on the U S cruiser Hancock toward Santo Domingo. His high scores in slow and rapid fire earned him the sharpshooter medal and a pay increase.
