Nutley residents report active community life with church choirs practicing Christmas music and brisk outdoor work. Local meetings include the Town Council and Board of Health while entertainments and sports events draw crowds. Notable items mention a wildcat rumor near the Belleville Nutley line and prize-winning dog exhibits in New York.
Nutley saw an uneventful election with 511 ballots from 911 registered voters. Republicans 404 and Democrats 87. ward breakdown shows 144 22 in first, 148 27 in second, 112 38 in third. Bloomfield and Summit shifted locally but statewide Republicans prevailed in Assembly and Senate races.
Nutley civic leaders, led by William J. Kinsley, meet General Superintendent Stanley of Public Service Corporation in Jersey City. Grace Church holds Sunday morning prayer and Holy Communion with a sermon by Rev. Herbert D. Cone of Geneva Ohio. The service and celebration take place at Grace Church in Louisiana.
The Tri Council Tournament begins with the first series between Kempton and Seth Boyden Councils on November 10 at the Belleville Hotel alleys. Kempton fields Taylor Wiley Davis Lambert and Dr Van Riper in the opening matchup at Main and Mill streets Belleville.
The regular Kempton Council Royal Arcanum will meet Monday evening at the Masonic Hall Dutig Building. An interesting entertainment is provided by the orator for this occasion. Members, especially those who have not returned tickets from the Mystery Dance committee, should attend.

The United States Civil Service Commission announces an exam on January 4 5 6 1904 in Trenton New Jersey to fill a cadet vacancy in the Revenue Cutter Service and similar posts. Applicants must be 18 to 25 years old, physically sound, and unmarried with a height under 6 feet 3 inches. Cadets may be commissioned as lieutenants after three years service with a $500 annual salary and one ration daily. Apply to the Civil Service Commission Washington DC or local exam secretary.
Workmen of the New York and New Jersey Telephone Company install phones in many homes this week. The network now allows talking from end to end of town, though many subscribers remain unsupplied and urge faster service.
St Marys Lyceum defeated Montereys of Passaic 20 to 0 at Hillside Track last Sunday. They beat Pastime A C of Paterson on Tuesday at the same site. Tomorrow they face Tebowde Hee Oro of Passaic County League.

The Nutley Civic Association will meet at Knights of Honor Hall on Franklin Avenue Friday November 13 at 8 15 o clock in the evening.
